Dry ice blasting strips stubborn bitumen without damaging the underlying surface.
Overview
Bitumen is a sticky, resilient material used in road construction and roofing that traditional methods struggle to remove. Dry ice blasting propels solid CO₂ pellets that thermally shock the bitumen, making it brittle and breaking its bond to the substrate.
The method works through three mechanisms: extreme cold causes contraction and brittleness, kinetic impact disrupts adhesion, and sublimation leaves no secondary waste or residue.
Typical applications
- Road construction equipment — paving machines, rollers
- Roofing materials and flooring substrates
- Pipelines and storage tanks
- Industrial facilities and manufacturing plants
- Machinery and equipment maintenance
Key benefits
- Non-abrasive — preserves surface integrity
- No secondary waste produced
- Safe and non-toxic, avoiding chemical exposure
- Minimises downtime through speed
- Works across many surfaces and industries
- Eliminates the need for hazardous chemicals
